Animakee Wa Zhing #37 is seeking a dynamic individual to join its team as an Administrative Assistant. AWZ#37 is creating a new family service model called Inawendiwin Chiganawendamang; still in the process of development, with the goal to replace current Provincial Mandated Child and Family Agency that serves AWZ#37. The Administrative Assistant reports directly to the Child and Family Advocacy Director, providing administrative support to the CAFS and staff within the IC.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Scheduling meetings and recording minutes, appointments, travel arrangements
  • Securing accommodations for all staff and clients
  • Document management; preparing, editing, proofreading, formatting all documents, reports, and presentations
  • Assisting with data entry, financial forms and documents; according to Finance Policies and Procedures
  • Taking and directing calls
  • Managing inventory and ordering supplies
  • Arranging technical support for computers, printers, etc.
  • Managing the CFAD calendar, calls, and meetings as directed
  • Creates organizational system to track work
  • Create, send, and respond to requests
  • Ensuring invoices are paid and reports are complete
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Certificate or related training as Administrative Assistant is preferred
  • 5 plus years working in an Indigenous work environment
  • Ability to create administrative processes to organize work to support the CAFD and office is required
  • Combinations of experience and training will be considered to fill this role
  • Understanding and willing to learn AWZ’s cultural practices
  • Knowledge of the impacts of colonization, the legacy of residential schools, and the 60’s scoop
  • Skills to respond calmly in crisis situations when families need assistance from the CAFD or other program staff
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to shift priorities as needed
  • Ability to stay up to date on the needs of the CAFD and staff to assist with their work
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to keep personal family information confidential
  • May occasionally be required to work additional hours to meet deadlines for programs and services
  • Ability to speak Ojibway is an asset and not preferred but willing to learn the language
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • First Nations person from outside of the community is preferred and preferably from Animakee Wa Zhing #37
