Duties:

The Child Youth Worker is a casual/relief program position. Child Youth Workers are responsible for the direct supervision of children in care. Child Youth Workers ensure the needs of the child are met according to Wabaseemoong Child Welfare Authority expectations.

 

Duties Include but are not limited to:

  • Provides relevant, and competent service to Wabaseemoong children and/or youth who are determined to require WCWA Child/Youth Services.
  • Ensures program services are delivered with excellence and conform to Wabaseemoong Child Welfare Authority’s Customary Care Code, Manuals and Service Delivery Model, policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols.
  • Provides appropriate and relevant care/supervision of WCWA children and/or youth.
  • Provides housekeeping accordance to responsibilities list.
  • Provides cooking in accordance to meal plannings.
  • Provides activities in accordance to activity plans.
  • Ensures planning and services set out by individuals’ worker is followed.
  • Provides direct supervision in schools, emergency home, hotels or other locations as directed by the Ma’iingan Services Manager and/or Director of Service as required.
  • Create positive and healthy relationships with children/youth.
  • Administer and document medications as required, first aid as required and other supports as required or requested.
  • Manages behavior in coordination with WCWA policies.
  • Document and record accurate and confidential client records (Shift briefs and Incident Reports).
  • Ensure accurate and timely reports are submitted within standards set out by WCWA.
  • Ensure that any risks identified are reported to the Services Manager and/or Director as required so that information reaches individual worker.
  • Maintain confidentiality to ensure that the privacy of individuals is protected.
  • Participate in training as required.
  • Serves as a resource to the Ma’iingan Services Manager and Director
  • Participates actively in team meetings by sharing ideas and concerns, providing input, and proposing changes that would improve service provision.
  • Reviews, revises, and makes recommendations on program policy and procedures to improve service effectiveness in relation to community needs.
  • Participate in trainings and seminars, workshops and courses as recommended/approved by the Executive Director and Manager.
  • Promotes Wabaseemoong Child Welfare Authority’s philosophy, goals, and objectives. Including conducting oneself in a professionally appropriate manner both when working and not working.
  • Employs One-to-One workers to work with children in our Staffed Modeled Homes and to provide relief to caregivers.
  • Workers are required to work; day/night shifts for the Staff Modeled Homes.
  • Responsible for direct supervision, safety and wellbeing of high risk and special needs children.
  • Responsible for light housekeeping, menu planning, meal preparation as required.
  • Responsible for observing and report findings to be detailed in a logbook.
  • Able to work with children and youth between the ages of 0-18.
  • Ensure the needs of children and youth are met.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma with one year direct related experience. However, a combination of skills, education and experience may be considered.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working with children.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work shift work and report to work on short notice in relation to service requirements.
  • Current First Aid and C.P.R. certificates, and crisis intervention, will train.
  • Must possess a valid Ontario G Driver’s License and be willing to travel.
  • Must provide a clear Criminal Records Check and Driver’s Abstract; and
  • Ability to speak Ojibway is preferred and a definite asset.
