Duties of this LEAP Job Posting: Position Description
Reporting to the Child and Youth Mental Health Services Manager, the Child & Youth Mental Health Therapist is responsible for providing therapeutic interventions for First Nations children in partnership with interdisciplinary service providers. The Child & Youth Mental Health Therapist will provide therapy from varying modalities e.g. CBT, DBT, Solution Focused etc., in conjunction with traditional ways of healing as desired by the client and their family. This position will be expected to travel to First Nations communities that are supported by Kenora Chiefs Advisory
Duties:
- Operate as a member of the Child and Youth Mental Health Services Team
- Complete assessments and case conceptualizations in partnership with clients and families
- Support clients in connecting with traditional healing practices if desired by clients and families
- Provide mental health therapy using evidence-based practice
- Complete case notes in an electronic medical record
- Complete relevant reports in a timely manner
- Develop and coordinate wellness plans that encompass spiritual, mental, emotional and physical wellness
- Monitor clients’ progress, goals and needs, using a stepped care approach
- Provide crisis intervention and after-care
- Provide virtual and in-person service
- Carry and maintain a caseload
- Work with other service providers to support clients
- Participate in individual and group supervision, as required
- Participate in program evaluation and enhancement as required by the Child and Youth Mental Health Services Manager
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
- Bachelor’s degree in the field of Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field
- Membership, in good standing, with a Professional College eligible to practice to the controlled act of psychotherapy such as the OCSWSSW, CRPO, CNO, CPO, or COTO
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in practicing therapy, and/or working with youth and families
- Interest in working with service providers across sectors including Mental Health, Primary Care, Education and Employment
- Excellent rapport and ability to work with youth and families
- Willingness/interest in being certified in therapeutic modalities & interventions such as EMDR, CBT, DBT, EFT etc. and other relevant certifications/trainings
- Ability to deal with crisis and post-crisis situations
- Excellent skills in the following areas: teamwork, computer, organization, networking, interpersonal, presentation and communication (written & oral)
- Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language, and experience working in First Nation communities is an asset
- Ability to demonstrate and work through a lens of sensitivity to diversity related to race, religion, culture, cognitive functioning, poverty, sexual orientation, and gender identity
- Knowledge and understanding of harm reduction, and a desire to work within this framework
