Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:

Under the direction of the Executive Director and Senior Aboriginal Healing Counselor, the Aboriginal Support Worker shall perform their duties as outlined in their job description. The Aboriginal Support Worker will be ensuring the security of the Centre facilities and residences through the hours of 4:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. or 12:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Monday to Friday inclusive and Saturday and Sunday’s during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Aboriginal Support Worker will ensure the safety of all occupants within the facility during a shift; ensure that the clients are constantly accounted for and maintain any curfew requirements, facilitate group sessions, recreational therapy and outings and provide counseling and support services.

Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • A certificate in counseling/or two or more years related work experience in the addictions field.
  • Experience in working with First Nations communities and residential treatment program.
  • Thorough knowledge of the substance abuse field, especially as it relates to First Nations People.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Anishinaabe People; communities and their culture, traditions and values in conjunction with the Twelve Steps of the Alcoholics Anonymous Program and Life skills Program.
  • Thorough knowledge of individual/group counseling/therapy.
  • Excellent and strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Confidentiality a must.
  • Must be sensitive and understanding to the needs of our patrons we provide services for.
  • Pleasant personality.
  • Punctuality a must.
  • Strong organizational abilities, planning and ability to carry through.
  • Ability to handle crisis in calm and in a positive manner.
  • Must have one (1) year or more continuous sobriety, a current abstainer and actively involved in a personal healing journey.
  • Experience in the delivery of a Treatment Centre Program will be an asset.
  • Fluency in Ojibway or Oji Cree an asset.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR required.
  • Valid Class “G” license is required and must be willing to get a Valid Class “F” license.
