Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:

In partnership with the Kenora Detachment of the Treaty 3 Police, the Mobile Crisis Worker shall provide crisis intervention support and outreach for all ages in Treaty 3 communities. The Mobile Crisis Worker will work with the Treaty 3 Police to respond to mental health calls and assist youth in crisis.

·         Extensive travel to First Nations Communities with Treaty 3 Police

·         Provide immediate intervention (including mental health support and suicide risk assessment, emotional support, de-escalation and hospital accompaniment) for all ages in crisis within Treaty 3 communities.

·         Work as part of a team with Treaty Police Service Officers, responding to calls for service via dispatch during shifts.

·         Abide by police service protocols in order to provide effective intervention in the safest way possible (training provided)

·         Provide information and education regarding mental illness and addiction.

·         Be capable of assessing and responding to high-risk clients using crisis intervention and crisis intervention theory.

·         Perform additional duties as required

Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:

Qualifications:

  • A university degree, preferably in Social Work or a college diploma from a recognized post- secondary institution.
  • Experience in the areas of crisis response, critical incidents & trauma will also be considered an asset.
  • Ability to deal with crisis and post-crisis situations (e.g., suicide, homicide, and other traumatic events).
  • Excellent clinical assessment and crisis intervention/counselling skills
  • Knowledge of both the Family Services Act and the Mental Health Act will be considered assets.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal and computer skills
  • Knowledge of the Anishinaabe culture and language will be considered assets
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player and take direction well
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Must be willing to travel when required
  • Able to provide a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record check
