Animakee Wa Zhing #37 is seeking a dynamic and compassionate individual to join its team as the Post Majority Support Services Worker. As part of its ongoing transformation in child and family services, AWZ#37 is developing a new family service model, Inawendiwin Chiganawendamang, which is intended to replace the current provincially mandated Child and Family Services agency serving the community. Reporting to the Child & Family Advocacy Director, the successful candidate will support the delivery of holistic, wrap-around services that empower youth and young adults to thrive and achieve positive long-term outcomes. This position is designed to address the distinct needs of Indigenous youth and young adults through proposal-driven direct service requests to Indigenous Services Canada in areas including: learning, educational and professional development opportunities; financial assistance and safe, stable housing; physical, mental, and social well-being;

and opportunities to (re)connect with land, culture, language, and community.

 

Duties:

  • Delivers activities, services, and supports that provide youth with meaningful opportunities to learn, grow and work toward their personal goals and life plans
  • Ensure youth have access to financial resources and supports that help meet their basic needs in a safe, secure, and consistent manner
  • Support youth in building meaningful and safe connections to their culture, identity and communities at a pace that is comfortable for them
  • Maintain accurate case notes, service plans, and documentation in accordance with AWZ#37 policies and procedures
  • Contribute to program evaluation and continuous improvement through community and youth feedback
  • Facilitate reconnection with family members, extended family, and community support networks where appropriate
  • Provide emotional support, mentorship, and guidance to youth, particularly during periods of crisis, transition, or personal setbacks
  • Guide and mentor individuals to access and navigate the government and community services that help address barriers to improving their quality of life
  • Coordinate meetings, activities, travel arrangements, and follow-up supports for youth, while documenting outcomes and action plans
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of relevant legislation, reporting requirements, funding supports, and grant-related processes
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain competencies and build new skills
  • Support policy reviews and program updates as required by program leadership
  • Work collaboratively with government agencies, community organizations, and service providers to advocate for and support AWZ#37 youth
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent required
  • Diploma in Social, Community, or Youth Services preferred
  • Experience working with Trauma-informed, youth-in-care or at-risk populations, personal lived experience is highly valued
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to shift priorities as needed.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • May be required to work additional hours to support youth requirements
  • Ability to travel between the two communities of Windigo Island and Regina Bay
  • First Nations person, preferably from AWZ#37 First Nation
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin an asset
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Current Criminal record check and clear Child Abuse Registry
  • Check required
  • Ability to be mentored and learn new skills
  • First Aid and CPR certifications or a willingness to obtain them
  • Valid Class G driver’s license and own vehicle
