Animakee Wa Zhing #37 is seeking to fill the role of Special Education Coordinator, reporting to the Education Director. This employee will be responsible for the educational needs of students with exceptionalities and will manage and oversee Special Education Programs.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Fluent in spoken and written Ojibwe is an asset;
  • Caring for the mental, emotional, physical, and social needs of students in grades JK-12 and Post-Secondary students;
  • Arranging Educational Assessments for students;
  • Willingness to provide transportation to and from specialist appointments;
  • Assisting in the development of Individual Education Plans;
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant educational laws and regulations;
  • Develop instructional materials, coordinate educational content and incorporate current technology into instruction;
  • Interacting with students, teachers, administrators, parents and/or caregivers in a professional and caring manner;
  • Finding creative ways to deal with challenging situations;
  • Remain calm in active environments and professionally handle emergencies.
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Proof of current Teaching Certificate or other relevant professional certification;
  • Previous experience working with children/youth;
  • Must be willing to participate in ongoing professional development as a prerequisite for continued employment;
  • First Aid and CPR certifications or willing to obtain;
  • Valid driver’s license;
  • Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check prior to the start of employment.
