Students, aged 14-17, will be working under the guidance of a Smoke-Free Ontario Act Enforcement Officer. The SFOA Test Shoppers will assist with monitoring retailers in the Northwestern Health Unit area for compliance with youth access restrictions under the Smoke-Free Ontario Act.
- Currently enrolled in secondary school (students interested in a law enforcement or legal careers would be an asset)
- Be willing and able to approach and ask retailers for e-cigarettes, components of e-cigarettes, and tobacco products in a public setting and provide a description of the retailer.
- Be willing and able to allow photos (of themselves) to be used as evidence and when needed,
- attend court.
- Strong observation skills, and ability to recall details and capture these observations legibly as notes.
- Effective handwritten and verbal communication skills.
- Self-confidence and self-assuredness with an ability to maintain confidential information.
- High standards of personal integrity, honesty, and respect.
- Ability to grasp and understand basic concepts relating to law enforcement and prosecutions.
- Ability to think, adapt and use sound judgement in stressful situations.
