Duties:
The Kizhaay Anishinaabe Niin Coordinator is responsible for providing Indigenous culture-based community services focused on supporting Indigenous men and male youth committed to ending all forms of violence against Indigenous women and girls. The Coordinator will lead culturally grounded programming, promote healing and positive identity development, and support men in choosing healthy, violence-free lifestyles.
- Deliver Indigenous culture-based programming for men and male youth that promotes healing, skill building, and non-violent alternatives to conflict.
- Provide wrap-around supports, including a strengths-based action plan for each individual service user.
- Facilitate programs within correctional institutions and support community reintegration for men and youth-aged males.
- Educate participants on identifying harmful behaviors and developing healthier approaches to conflict resolution.
- Foster a safe, supportive learning environment that promotes violence-free living through education and cultural connection.
- Coordinate community events that highlight the roles of Indigenous men in ending violence against Indigenous women and girls.
- Create opportunities for men and youth to connect with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, traditional teachings, cultural activities, and land-based programming.
- Promote healing circles, peer support networks, and self-help processes to support healing, identity development, and healthy approaches to parenting and relationships.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Demonstrated work experience within an Indigenous organization or community.
- Strong knowledge of Indigenous culture and history, particularly related to family violence, child welfare, and the impacts of trauma.
- Experience working with Indigenous men and male youth involved with the justice system.
- Personal experience with, and ability to model, traditional male roles.
- Proven skills in group facilitation and workshop delivery.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word and data entry.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Benefits:
- Earn up to 9.37 hours of Paid Personal Leave per month (equivalent to up to 15 days annually, dependent on hire date)
- Earn up to 9.37 hours of Paid Vacation per month to start (equivalent to up to 3 weeks annually, dependent on hire date)
- Approximately two weeks of paid time off during the December break, upon successful completion of the probationary period
