Urban Aboriginal Healing Living Program Worker

Hours of Work: 12-month Parental Leave Contract with the possibility of an extension

Wage: $52,000-$55,000 to start dependent on experience and qualifications

 

The Program Worker will be responsible for designing, delivering, monitoring and evaluating healthy lifestyle programs based on community needs and interests. The Program Worker will ensure that program design and delivery comply with Friendship Centre standards of performance and that all program requirements are met.

Duties:

  • Consult with the community to determine healthy lifestyle program needs and interests, specifically among Indigenous children, youth, women and seniors
  • Plan, organize, supervise, assess and facilitate physical fitness and recreation programs; sport activities; healthy eating and weight management programs; youth leadership and smoking cessation programs appropriate for participant knowledge base and physical capabilities
  • Establish and maintain relationships and partnerships with local community sports, fitness and recreation agencies and organizations
  • Schedule and plan programming and workshops outside of regular hours of operation

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Sports & Recreation or a related field, and/or equivalent training, experience and certification.
  • Experience in physical fitness training or willingness and ability to obtain certification to facilitate a broad range of physical fitness programs
  • Knowledge of healthy lifestyle behaviours, particularly nutrition, healthy weight management and the benefits of living smoke-free
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and the social reality that Indigenous youth, adults, and seniors experience inmurban settings
  • Proven skills in program planning, development, implementation, data collection, and evaluation
  • Delivering educational workshops and facilitating group programming
  • Available to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings
