Duties:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, The Cook performs their duties as outlined in their job description. The Cook will be preparing and serving meals for the participants of the treatment centre. The cook performs duties Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm and may be required to work on holidays. The Cook will play a key role in the health and comfort of the treatment residents.
- Food preparation and service: preparing lunch, dinner, snacks and feasts. Ensuring correct portions.
- Dietary Compliance: Follow diet restrictions of residents. Follow Canada’s Food Guide. Work with a dietician to create a healthy menu.
- Sanitation: Cleaning and sanitizing kitchen and dining areas and food service equipment.
- Meal plan: Prepare menu for four-week residential treatment participants. Responsible for shopping/ordering food and cleaning supplies.
- Life Skills: Teach treatment participants how to wash dishes, practice proper hand hygiene, prepare and cook healthy meals, keep a clean and sanitary dining area and kitchen,
- You will be required to have basic financial understanding of budgets, managing waste, inventory and upkeep of kitchen supplies and equipment.
Qualifications:
- A certificate in Safe Food Handling (Ontario)
- Experience in working with First Nations communities is preferred.
- You are a high energy individual with exceptional multi-tasking and organizational skills.
- You will have strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Confidentiality a must.
- Must be sensitive and understanding to the needs of our patrons we provide services for.
- Pleasant and friendly personality.
- You are someone who comes to work on time and has a good attendance record.
- A Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s license and own vehicle is a must.
- Ability to handle crisis calmly and in a positive manner.
- Participate in living the good life (Mino Bimaadiziwin).
- Fluency in Ojibway is considered an asset.
- Valid First Aid and CPR is considered an asset
- Must provide a criminal reference check.
