Animakee Wa Zhing #37 is seeking a dynamic individual to join its team as the Primary Intake Coordinator. Animakee Wa Zhing First Nation (AWZ) is developing a unified, structured family service program under the new Inawendiwin Chiganawendamang (IC) initiative to support children, youth, and families. One position in Regina Bay and one position in Windigo Island, the Primary Intake Coordinator reports to the Child and Family Advocacy Director. The roles provide intake and coordination of support services in Regina Bay and Windigo Island. The position aligns with An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis Children, Youth and Families (Bill C-92) and requires knowledge of Ontario’s Child, Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA).

Duties:

  • The Role includes community intake screenings, addressing immediate family needs and connecting clients to appropriate internal services and supports
  • Intake Services Include: screening and assessment for three levels of Service; first, “Brief” Services to meet emergency needs, second, escalate to primary, and third, escalate to tertiary based on Supervisory direction.
  • Ability to identify family dynamic issues
  • Primary Services: Provide a range of community focused workshops that provide traditional Anishinaabe family services that helps develop skills to support the child and family
  • Coordinates, organizes and promotes events hosted in the community to encourage the best participation possible, collecting statistics on workshop attendance and service participation
  • Works respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and the Cultural Co-ordinator to ensure Intake & Primary services are delivered respectfully and in keeping with Anishinaabe values and traditions
  • Demonstrates Anishinaabe cultural competence into all aspects of providing service to the community
  • Maintains appropriate boundaries and confidentiality while providing service to community families
  • Good knowledge of community resources and service providers within AWZ
  • Ability to use a database and electronic record-keeping systems
  • Refers families to Tertiary, Secondary, Primary or Recreation services staff as needed, or escalates areas of concern to the CAFD
  • Ensures all expenses are pre-approved by the CAFSD and follow financial policies and procedures
  • Works with the CAFD to evaluate the Primary Intake program policy, services, and procedures to improve the quality of services offered to ensure continuous improvements are made

Qualifications:

  • BSW, MSW or combined education and First Nation work experience at community level
  • A combination of education and First Nations experience will be considered for this position
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to shift priorities as needed
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage workload in a team environment
  • Able to work flexible hours (including evenings or weekends) to meet work demands
  • Preference will be given to applicants who can already speak Anishinaabemowin, or are willing to learn
  • Attends and actively participates in staff and community meetings as part of this position
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the CAFD
  • Must be a First Nations person, preferably from Animakee Wa Zhing #37 First Nation
  • Current and acceptable criminal record check
  • Current and Clear Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Current First Aid, CPR & NVCI (or willing to attain as required)
  • Valid Class G Driver’s license and acceptable driving record and insurance
