Duties:

Pioneer Construction Inc. is seeking hardworking and dependable individuals to join our team in the role of Asphalt Plant Operator, based in the Kenora, Ontario area. This is a hands-on role suitable for a safety-conscious, reliable individual who takes pride in their equipment and their work.

 

  • Safely operate and monitor asphalt plant equipment and other production equipment
  • Produce asphalt mixes in accordance with job specifications, quality standards, and production schedules
  • Monitor aggregate, liquid asphalt, and additive inventories and coordinate replenishment requirements
  • Perform daily pre-operational and post-operational plant inspections and attend safety meetings
  • Monitor plant performance and make adjustments to maintain production efficiency and product quality
  • Conduct routine quality control checks and assist with material sampling and testing activities
  • Coordinate with dispatch, quality control personnel, truck drivers, and construction crews to support operational requirements
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and assist with diagnosing equipment malfunctions
  • Perform routine maintenance, lubrication, housekeeping, and minor repairs on plant equipment
  • Coordinate plant startup, shutdown, and seasonal maintenance activities
  • Assist with preventative maintenance planning and execution
  • Clean, lubricate and refuel equipment as required
  • Manage and report inventory and production
  • Maintain accurate electronic hours of service logs and inspection logs
  • Perform physically demanding work including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, crouching, climbing, crawling, repetitive reaching, and extended periods of standing throughout the workday
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including inclement weather
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Work evenings, weekends, and extended hours as required to meet operational and project demands
  • Travel to job sites across Northern Ontario, including occasional out-of-town assignments with overnight stays
  • Work in accordance with all internal, client and regulated health and safety policies, procedures and/or regulations, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Previous experience operating an asphalt plant, aggregate plant, concrete plant, or similar industrial processing facility
  • Knowledge of asphalt production processes and quality control procedures
  • Valid G class Driver’s License
  • Strong commitment to safety and teamwork

 

Considered an Asset:

  • Heavy equipment operating experience
  • Surface Miner Common Core
  • High school diploma or equivalent

 

Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to monitor and adjust plant operations to maintain production efficiency and product quality
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and interpret operating manuals, specifications, and production reports
  • Knowledge of loading requirements, techniques, and practices
  • Ability to perform physically intensive and strenuous tasks
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills with supervisors, coworkers, and clients
  • Ability to adapt to changing job requirements and schedules
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Professional attitude and strong work ethic

This position is governed by a collective agreement. The pay range posted reflects base compensation under the applicable agreement. Placement within the range is based on experience, qualifications, and union provisions. Benefits and other incentives are offered separately.
