Duties:
Under the direction of the Principal, the Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE) works in partnership with the Classroom Teacher, parents, other DECEs, educational support staff and special education staff. They are responsible for supporting early learning in an enriched learning environment designed to help children develop the foundational social, emotional, academic and physical skills necessary to succeed in school and in life, as well as support the extension of learning into the child’s home. The DECE plans and implements the Early Learning program collaboratively in consultation with the classroom teacher under the guidance of the Principal. DECEs work collaboratively with all staff to track the developmental progress of all children, providing support to the teacher in writing report cards, participating in parent-teacher conferences, creating an inclusive learning environment, providing proactive and reactive interventions, providing oversight to support the health, safety and well being of children in the program and facilitating home/school communication, as well as other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Working Conditions:
Incumbent works in a classroom environment with frequent interruptions and varying noise levels. Moderate physical effort normally required including routine walking, sitting or standing. Constant hearing/speech communication is necessary as is frequent visual concentration.
Fine motor activities are required i.e. keyboarding, logging data results, etc.

Qualifications:
- Ontario High School Diploma or equivalent as well as a Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education and registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators is required
- A minimum of two years of experience in a similar environment
- First Aid and CPR certification are preferred
