Duties:
Licensed since 1998, Norman Village Montessori School is growing its team of educators and care professionals. Early Childhood Educators provide nurturing care in partnership with families, colleagues, and the community. They support an inclusive, high-quality early learning environment that is developmentally appropriate, safe, and is responsive to children’s needs. Educators are expected to comply with all applicable municipal, provincial, and federal regulations; follow the requirements of the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA); and uphold the philosophy, policies, and procedures of Norman Village Montessori School.
KEY OBJECTIVES: To Assist Montessori Teachers
- To perform duties in accordance with the mission statement and core values of Norman Village Montessori School (outlined in NVMS Parent Handbook)
- Staff to child ratios are a priority for this position in keeping with and Child Care Licensing
- System (CCLS) under the Ministry of Education
- To support and assist Montessori Teachers and other Program staff in providing a high quality, inclusive preschool program that meets diverse needs and promotes optimum physical, social, and cognitive and intellectual development of the children in care
REPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- Gently guides and supports children during activities as needed, encouraging independence,
- confidence, and positive outcomes while helping each child build the skills needed for success.
- Engages in supportive and respectful interactions with children to ensure they feel a sense of security and belonging
- Actively participates in walks and a variety of outdoor activities, including winter activities.
- Provides a welcoming and nurturing environment by demonstrating ongoing affection, acceptance and support for each child and their unique needs
- Records attendance accurately and documents daily activities in accordance with NVMS requirements.
- Demonstrate punctuality by arriving on time to maintain required staff-to-child ratios and ensure compliance with licensing standards.
- Respects confidentiality and builds collaborative, positive relationships with families, colleagues, and students
- Works in accordance with health and Safety Standards
- Understands the importance of good communication with teachers, staff and parents
- Demonstrates interest in and basic knowledge of Montessori philosophy, and actively builds understanding through on-the-job learning, engagement with provided materials, and guidance from the supervisor and lead Montessori teachers
- Works collaboratively with other staff to maintain a clean, organized, and healthy environment.
- Assists teachers in designing and creating materials that support the Montessori practical life and language Arts and cultural program curriculum
Qualifications:
- Over 18 years of age with 2 years’ minimum experience working in a group setting with children.
- Willingness to work over the summer (July and August)
- Understanding of indigenous culture (asset)
- Current Emergency First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to update certification as required.
- Experience working in early learning licensed childcare setting (asset)
- Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands on the job such as long walks, bending, kneeling, & crouching
