Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Finance is part of the Senior Management team and oversees ONWA’s financial activities, including financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. Key duties include developing and implementing financial policies, managing the finance team, ensuring regulatory compliance, analyzing financial performance, and providing strategic financial advice to management to support ONWA’s success.

SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business, Finance or related field
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)
  • Ability to prepare financial statements and monitor performance against department plans and budgets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to navigate complex stakeholder environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), databases, and data analysis tools.
  • Valid Ontario “G” driver’s license, reliable vehicle and appropriate insurance.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of Indigenous Culture, Traditions, and Indigenous Community
  • Understanding of Indigenous communities in Ontario, including the cultural, social, and historical contexts affecting Indigenous women.
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit governance and experience working with Boards of Directors.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in senior level management within the not-for-profit and charity industry, ideally with some of that experience in Indigenous organizations.
  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP, provincial, federal legislation, and not-for-profit governance.
  • Expert knowledge of the Province of Ontario Not for Profit Corporations Act, as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for Not-for-Profits, and Charities
  • Expert knowledge of established cloud-based enterprise management and accounting software.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present the critical financial matters to the CEO and a volunteer board of directors.
  • Experience in supporting strategic planning and development of multi-year work plans.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. The ability to speak an Indigenous Language is considered an asset.

  • Highly motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively, manage competing priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Must be willing and able to work within a flexible hybrid (remote/in-office) model based on operational needs and will be determined by ONWA.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Current, valid vulnerable sector check.
