Solid Construction Inc. is a well-established and respected General Contracting company based in Kenora, proudly serving Northwestern Ontario since 2003. We are currently seeking an experienced and dependable Excavator Operator to join our earthworks division.
The successful candidate will be responsible for operating excavators and other heavy equipment on a variety of residential, commercial, civil, and industrial construction projects throughout the NWO region. We are looking for an individual with strong operating skills, safety awareness, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced construction environment. Duties:
- Safely operate excavators and other heavy equipment on various construction and earthworks projects
- Perform excavation, grading, trenching, backfilling, ditching, site preparation, demolition, and material handling tasks
- Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and instructions from supervisors and project managers
- Work around underground utilities and existing infrastructure safely and efficiently
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and complete pre-trip and maintenance checks
- Perform routine maintenance, greasing, cleaning, and minor repairs on equipment as required
- Monitor equipment performance and report mechanical issues or required repairs promptly
- Load and unload equipment safely when required
- Work collaboratively with labourers, truck drivers, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure projects are completed efficiently and safely
- Maintain clean and organized equipment and work areas
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OHSA regulations at all times
- Work safely in varying weather, terrain, and job site conditions
- Travel to varying job sites throughout NWO as required
- Represent Solid Construction Inc. professionally while interacting with customers, contractors, suppliers, and the public
- Perform additional earthworks or construction-related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Previous experience operating excavators and heavy equipment required
- Experience with grading, trenching, site servicing, and earthworks projects considered an asset
- Valid drivers licence with reliable transportation to and from work
- DZ or AZ licence considered a strong asset
- Strong understanding of safe operating practices and construction site safety procedures
- Ability to perform daily equipment inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor mechanical repairs
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and quality work
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Physically capable of working long hours and outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced construction environment
- Experience operating additional heavy equipment such as skid steers, loaders, dozers, or packers considered an asset
- GPS machine control or grading experience considered an asset
- Safety certifications such as WHIMIS, First Aid, or Ground Disturbance considered an asset
- Strong work ethic, reliability, punctuality, and professionalism required
- Flexible availability, including occasional overtime, out of town work, or weekends during peak construction periods
