Duties:

Shoal Lake 40 First Nation is seeking a qualified and dedicated individual for the position of School Cook at the Harvey Redsky Memorial School. The student population consists of Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8 and is committed to providing a quality and nutritional meals that supports student well-being and general health.

  • Previous experience in a commercial kitchen, cafeteria, and restaurant, would be an asset (2–3 years of experience).
  • A food handler’s certificate or food safety certification required.
  • Prepare nutritional meals that meet food guidelines standards with a good understanding of providing balanced meals and special dietary needs.
  • Consistent preparation of meals for large numbers.
  • Time management skill would be a definite asset.
  • Physical ability, the job may involve standing for long periods, lifting heavy boxes (often 20–50lb / 10–23 kg), and working in hot kitchen environments.
  • Teamwork and communication work closely with other kitchen staff, administrators, and sometimes students.
  • Attention to cleanliness and maintaining sanitary food preparation and following health regulations is a key.
  • Basic math and recordkeeping and measuring ingredients, adjusting recipes, tracking inventory, and recording food temperatures is a definite asset.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Culinary Diploma / equivalent Certification A high school diploma or equivalent experience.
  • A criminal background check and vulnerable sector screening.
  • CPR/First aid certification and knowledge of workplace hazardous materials information system (WHMIS).
  • Experience preparing meals for large groups or knowledge of allergen management.
  • Safe Food Handler Certification.
  • Experience in institutional or large-scale food preparation.
  • Knowledge of allergy awareness and food safety regulations.
