Duties:
The Ne-Chee Friendship Centre is seeking a Program Worker for the Wewena ngiiwemaa (I’m Taking Her Home Safely) program. This program supports the rehabilitation and reintegration of Indigenous women transitioning from correctional facilities back to their home communities by providing culturally grounded, wraparound supports.
- Ensure Indigenous women in custody have access to services and supports during incarceration and following their release.
- Deliver culturally relevant programming, including traditional teachings and ceremonies, while providing education on risk recognition, personal safety, and healthy relationships.
- Provide wraparound supports that assist individuals in successfully returning to their home communities and identify gaps or barriers that may affect successful reintegration.
- Assist clients in navigating government programs, community resources, and service systems to promote stability and successful community reintegration.
- Develop individualized, strengths-based action plans for each client receiving direct services.
- Facilitate programming within correctional institutions and maintain positive working relationships with institutional staff and community partners.
- Maintain accurate client documentation, case notes, and program reports in accordance with organizational policies.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Social Work, Human Services, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
- Experience working within a correctional, justice, or related human services setting.
- Experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.
- Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and histories, with knowledge of the impacts of colonization, intergenerational trauma, family violence, human trafficking, and community outreach.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, networking, facilitation, and administrative skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
- Ability to speak Ojibway, Cree, or Oji-Cree is considered a strong asset.
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- A Current Vulnerable Sector Check will be required upon offer of employment.
