Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Assume duties and responsibilities of the OIC as defined by the O. Reg. 170/03.
  • Provide monitoring and oversight service to Hub affiliated water facilities from a centralized Hub Operating Centre located in Kenora, Ontario.
  • Respond to alerts, alarms, and requests from the community water treatment facilities.
  • Respond to facility emergencies notifying the Hub Manager and commencing the mobilization of repair technicians.
  • Ensure staff have or work towards acquiring the necessary certificates required of their respective positions (first aid, WHMIS, pleasure craft licence, confined space, other H&S etc.).
  • Ensure that the Occupational health and Safety Act (Canadian Labour Code) is followed.
  • Create and maintain an equipment and tool inventory including critical spare parts for the WTP’s and emergency equipment.
  • Ensure communal water facilities are operated and maintained in accordance with the Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines, Ontario’s Drinking Water Quality Management Standard and the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) (O. Reg. 170/03).
  • This includes the provision of remote monitoring of these facilities, creating an emergency call out hotline, and assisting with the removal of BWA’s as they arise.
  • Ensure water quality data is collected, maintained and reported on.
  • Develop and implement operation and maintenance procedures for efficiently and effectively operating and maintaining water facilities in accordance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Create and maintain “living documents” such as SOPs, MMPs, ERPs, etc.
  • Maintain, contribute to, and advocate the use of a computerized maintenance management system, CMMS.
  • Provide direction and or supervision to Hub affiliated Water facility Operators.
  • Ensure that records and logbooks are maintained in accordance with O. Reg 128/04
  • Ensure that all equipment used in the processes within his/her responsibility is properly monitored, inspected, calibrated, and evaluated and that records of equipment operating status are prepared and readily available.
  • Develop and implement Operator Training Plans to ensure operators receive adequate training as required under Ontario Regulation 128/04 including hands on mentoring and provision of training opportunities.
  • Complete in-house reporting, trip reports, weekly updates, GBOC reports etc. Attend meetings as required.
  • Note: this list includes all major responsibilities but is not exhaustive of all required day to day activities and duties.
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Working knowledge of water system operation, treatment, system hydraulics, pumps, wells, motors, valves, etc., normally acquired through a community college diploma or equivalent experience in water operations and maintenance including minimum 3 years’ operating experience in a water treatment facility.
  • Strong understanding of computer applications for the technical environment including plant performance monitoring through SCADA systems.
  • Effective communication and reporting skills (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have at a minimum, an active WT1 Certification from the Ontario Water & Wastewater Certification Office.
  • Post-secondary education with a C.Tech, C.E.T., or P.Eng. designation would be a definite asset.
  • Must have a valid Class “G” Ontario driver’s license.
  • Must have pleasure craft/ boat license.
  • Must be willing to provide a background check.
  • Above average wage is proportional with certifications and experience.
