The Employment Advisor assists clients in the Resource and Information Area; ensuring all clients accessing our service enjoy a high level of satisfaction and are provided with a consistent, professional, and welcoming environment. This role provides job search instruction and technical support, when appropriate, and assists clients with the information, tools, and resources needed to gain sustainable employment. The Employment Advisor also determines client eligibility for Integrated Employment Services and works one on one to help individuals achieve their employment and training goals.
The Employment Advisor will report to the Executive director. Working 37.5 hours per week, with a Health Benefit Package and RRSP Plan, 3 weeks’ vacation, and 15 sick days.

Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
- Assisting individuals with their employment needs in a public resource area, including resume preparation and job search assistance
- Provide advice and counseling to clients in the Kenora area with career planning, goal clarification and job search techniques and assist eligible clients to access negotiated, subsidized interventions and facilitate their return to work
- Support clients whose Employment Action Plan identifies employment barriers based upon labour market needs and the probability of obtaining employment upon completion of training, demonstrate that training intervention would facilitate re-entry into the labour market
- Strongly advocate for clients to reach employment and training goals (if eligible and suitable) at all times
- Prepare monthly client activity spreadsheets and reports
- Input client/employer information into EOIS CaMS government computerized system as well as ES Cases
- Play an important role in achieving LEAP’s set targets and goals
- Guarantee quality standards are met and obtain evaluations of customer satisfaction
- Facilitate group discussions and provide Life Skills coaching to groups and individual clients
- Engage in continuous learning and training opportunities
- Attend an assortment of conferences, seminars and summits out of town and/or locally, as required
- Conducting assessments, employment counselling and work placement activity with registered clients
- Marketing services and programs to the community
- Maintaining accurate and timely documentation as per Serco and agency standards
- Attend inter-agency meetings with local partnering agencies, educational institutions and other community stakeholders
- Partake in various community events and uphold a positive image, representing LEAP
- Recommend clients’ expenditures as stated in Serco Canada guidelines, compile and analyse financial data/client information, maintain accurate financial records and administer expense funds as directed by management
- Organize and record personal expenditures, including mileage, meals and travel expenses
- Comply with the organization’s vision, fundamentals, policies and procedures
- Perform other tasks as assigned by management
Administrative/Accountability
- Consistently meet or exceed monthly intake and outcome targets for both IES and ODSP clients
- Follow guidelines for file maintenance as outlined by Service System Manager guidelines and as per Lake of the Woods Employment Action Project requirements
- Ensure timely reporting, submitting accurate reports to track activities, supported by up-to-date case notes
- Guide clients on the completion of forms. Answer questions and ensure deadlines are met
- Assist with Resource and Information area
- Makes routine and non-routine decisions within established guidelines relating to Employment Service program referring unusual situations to the Program Coordinator
- Spends finances as directed by management, negotiates financial decisions or transactions, forecasts expenditures, and attains, or exceeds, annual targets ensuring continuation of funding
- Completes regular job retention support as well as Outcome monitoring when necessary
- Have a key understanding of employer needs within the community and where to refer clients
Client Direct
- Meet with clients to learn about client’s needs and goals
- Source and present career opportunities to clients that fit with their skills, abilities and employment goals
- Monitor client’s long-term progress by conducting follow-up activities and offering coaching as needed
- Creates opportunities for placements, sourcing training opportunities, matching and pre-screening potential employees/employers, preparing documents, supporting and coaching clients, monitoring performance, resolving problems, re-preparation for job loss, guiding clients in self-employment situations and seeking job development opportunities with the Job Developer
- Assisting clients to attain knowledge, providing opportunities for instruction on employer expectations, acceptable behaviours, presentation of self, etc. in order to prepare the client for job searches, employment, placement/training, other labour market conditions, ensuring access to telephones/computers/etc. and providing instructions on meeting employer expectations
The Opportunity
- Determine when and how to provide direct instruction and assistance to client to support job retention
- Respond to issues that arise with clients by utilizing support services both internally and externally
- Participate in other activities that support client employment outcomes (such as / but not limited to: job fairs, project participation, community events, virtual workshops relevant to workforce opportunity etc.).
- Collaborate with other staff to develop strategies and share leads for clients across program/service
- Where relevant, provide guidance and coaching on the apprenticeship process to job seekers/employees and employers
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
- University Degree or Community College Diploma in Social Services or Social Development preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Flexibility, sound judgement and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of the labour market, private and public trainers and colleges/universities throughout the province
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with sensitivity
- Broad-based knowledge of current labour market trends and community services relating to employment, training, job retention, mental health, disability, Ontario Works, newcomers/ESL, etc.
- Proven ability to operate independently while demonstrating a high level of integrity and professionalism
- Strong organizational and time management skills; able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work and communicate effectively within a team environment, as well as the ability to manage and meet standards and deliverables as set by the funder Serco and the agency
- Great coaching, counselling, negotiating, facilitating, teaching, conflict resolution, customer service and organizational skills
- Versatility to adapt to a wide variety of situations within the job
- Ethical decision-making
- General knowledge of workplace legislation and practices under ESA, OHSA and OHRC is considered an asset
- Understands the principles and values of a person-centered approach, providing service through trauma informed lens
- Highly skilled and experienced using the MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), internet search engines, and career-related software
- Experience in the use of databases for clients and case management, activity tracking, case noting, etc.
- A valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
- Must pass a Vulnerable Sector Check
- An understanding of the employment needs, issues and opportunities within our community
- Hours of this position are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 9-5pm, Wednesday 10:30-6:30 and Friday 8-4pm.
