Under the direction of the Healing and Wellness Supervisor, The Healing and Wellness Support Worker shall perform their duties as outlined in their job description. The Healing and Wellness Worker will be ensuring the security of the Centre facilities and residences through evenings (4:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.) and weekends (8:30am to 8:30pm or 8:30pm to 8:30am). The Healing and Wellness Worker will ensure the safety of all occupants within the facility during a shift; ensure that the clients are constantly accounted for and maintain any curfew requirements, facilitate group sessions, recreational therapy and outings and provide support services.
- A certificate in counseling/addictions/mental health and related work experience in the helping field.
- Knowledge of the substance abuse field, in conjunction with the Twelve Steps of the Alcoholics Anonymous Program, Red Road to Wellbriety Program and Life skills Program is considered an asset.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Anishinaabe People; communities and their culture, and traditions.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written (English).
- Must be sensitive and understanding to the needs of our patrons we provide services for.
- Punctuality is a must.
- Strong organization, planning and ability to carry through.
- Ability to handle crisis calmly and in a positive manner.
- Participate in living the good life (Mino Bimaadiziwin).
- Fluency in Ojibway or Oji Cree is considered an asset.
- Valid Class “G” license is required. Required to have own transportation to and from work site.
- Must provide a satisfactory criminal reference check
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Will be mandatory to obtain an F class driver’s license once hired (employer will cover cost)
- This position requires working days, and occasional weekends, 8-hour shifts and 12-hour shifts.
- Works primarily in a residential treatment facility, occasionally outdoors for land-based activities and accompany treatment participants to community events.
- Combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending and kneeling, lifting
- Will be exposed to the smoke of burning Scared Medicines
- Cleaning duties
- Transporting clients to activities
- In person work required (remote work not available)
