Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:

101.3 The Gap is seeking a dynamic and community-driven Radio News/Announcement Reporter to join our team. This role focuses on covering local news, sports, weather, community events and announcements for the Wauzhushk Onigum Nation and Kenora areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and producing newscasts, reporting from the field, and engaging with the community both on-air and in person.

 

  • Report on news, community events and announcements for radio and digital media.
  • Prepare and produce daily newscasts, including local news, sports, and weather.
  • Collect and verify announcements from the Wauzhushk Onigum Nation and Kenora Communities for broadcast.
  • Update the station’s website and social media platforms with news, announcements and event coverage.
  • Attend and report from events, press conferences, and community gatherings.
  • Conduct interviews, take photos, and represent 101.3 The Gap in the communities.
  • Communicate with listeners and community members via phone, in person at the station, or live at events.
  • Serve as a live representative of the station during remote broadcasts and community events.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the station’s presence and mission including music and traffic scheduling.
Qualifications for this LEAP Job Posting:
  • Demonstrated community involvement is an asset.
  • Outgoing personality, strong writing, reporting, and verbal communication skills.
  • Previous experience in radio broadcasting or journalism is an asset including schooling.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous communities and cultural awareness is highly valued.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt to a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
