Duties of this LEAP Job Posting:
The Community Support Services (CSS) program relies on volunteer drivers to transport citizens to and from their medical appointments. Volunteers are highly valued and are an essential part of the program.
Volunteers contribute in the following way:
- Providing medical transportation to facilitate clients access to health care
Role Details and Volunteer Support
Reimbursements and Covered Expenses
Although this is a volunteer position, individuals are reimbursed for out-of-pocket costs, including:
- Mileage: Reimbursed at the current rate of $0.59/km
- Meals: Flat rates of $16.50 (breakfast), $25.50 (lunch), and $58.50 (dinner)
- Overnight Travel: Hotel accommodations are prepaid; an additional per diem of approximately $17 is provided for incidentals
- Other Expenses: Parking and other reasonable travel-related costs are also reimbursed
Schedule and Time Commitment
- Primarily Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend or Sunday travel depending on client needs/appointment location
- Volunteers are asked to be flexible based on availability and preference; support can be seasonal or location-specific (e.g., no winter travel if preferred)
Use of Personal Vehicle
- Volunteers use their own vehicle for transportation
- Must provide valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, and complete a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
- Online training and application through our program coordinator are required
Travel Areas
- Trips may be local (Kenora, Reddit, Keewatin) or out-of-town (Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Dryden)
- Volunteers can choose the locations or seasons they are most comfortable with
Client Transportation Support
- Volunteers pick up clients from their homes and return them post-appointment
- Most clients are independent or travel with a support person. Some may need minimal physical assistance (e.g., walker loading/unloading)
